Busy ..

2008

Well, I have been in school and busy as Hell (Yes, literally. Soul-harvesting is a lucrative but time consuming business). The mix of school and my various musical lessons have taken up most of my time. New concepts/ideas have been forming during this time, unfortunately, I haven’t had much time to act on these ideas.

An interesting side effect from the immersion in the music I have been studying, a new style of sound that is blurring of all the different techniques used in the genres. At first it came out sounding like hokey style dropping that many musicians will do when they are too afraid to take the real leap into ethnomusicological exploration. The most prominent in this are Brazilian Psychedelic, Chinese Classical (Guzheng music), Middle Eastern (Arabic, Romani, and Balkan), and Indian Classical (Hindustani) and Indian Folk. The techniques and modes used in these musics have provided me with a greater fundamental understanding of music as a whole. Reminds me of the saying “You have to learn the rules to break them”.

I plan to start documenting these labors better and provide some listening to the experiments in the next few weeks.
